The Digestive System of Lined Seahorses:
Similar to humans, lined seahorses, or seahorses in general, have a digestive system made up of small organs to digest the food that they eat constantly. Though it is shown above, seahorses have an extremely reduced stomach. They are mostly reliant on the other organs for the digestion of food.
How Lined Seahorses Digests Food:
Imagine that you are a shrimp and you have just been eaten by a seahorse. Then what happens? What how will you be digested? Well, it is as follows:
1. Seahorses have no teeth, so there is no chewing done. Instead, the small food that they eats are swallowed as a whole (1).
2. Then the food goes down a tube like structure called the esophagus to the minimized stomach where it is somewhat broken down. Here, the nearby liver produces bile to help out with the process of digestion (2).
3. The the product later goes to the (small) intestine in which the nutrients are absorbed.
4. Meanwhile, the filtered waste from the kidney is sent to the urinary bladder
5. Finally, when it comes time to go, they do a special 360 degress dance to excrete (3).
